Music and the world language classroom

During a mini-workshop held on February 9, 2019 at Hunter College, Fabio Battista (Ph.D. candidate, Department of Comparative Literature, The Graduate Center, CUNY) provided a theoretical overview and a practical demonstration of the benefits and potential uses of music in the language classroom, focusing on the case of Italian. The workshop revolved around a sample lesson plan for Italian (here included) featuring ideas for in-class activities, beginning with a listening activity (with a viewing component), and then expands to entwined activities involving reading, speaking, and writing skills, also incorporating relevant notions in cultural history. This lesson plan can be tailored to different levels of language proficiency and environments, from beginner to advanced, from high school to college, and to different languages.
